Are you a nurse trained outside the Netherlands and looking to launch your healthcare career here? Efkaria offers a comprehensive pre-employment training program designed specifically for international nurses. Our practice-oriented program equips you with the professional qualifications required to work as a healthcare provider in the Netherlands.

You will participate in an intensive curriculum focused on: 1. Dutch language skills, progressing from beginner to professional nursing terminology, 2. Dutch culture and work environment, 3. The structure of the Dutch healthcare system and relevant legislation

At the end of the program, you will take part in an extensive nursing course that combines theory and hands-on practice. This training is accredited by V&VN, the Dutch nursing association. Upon successful completion, you will join Efkaria as an employee and start your career at one of our partner healthcare institutions within the Dutch public health system.

Key Steps

To work in long-term care in the Netherlands as a nurse with foreign qualifications, you must meet several requirements and follow a structured process:

Recognition of Qualifications:
Obtain official recognition of your nursing diploma. This involves applying for a Certificate of Professional Competence from the CIBG, which is part of the Ministry of Health and regulates healthcare professions. Registration in the BIG-register is mandatory for nurses and other healthcare professionals. Efkaria will assisst in this process.
Dutch Language Proficiency:
You must demonstrate proficiency in Dutch. For MBO-level nurses, a B1 language certificate is required; for HBO-level nurses, B2 is needed. Language courses tailored for healthcare professionals are provided by us, with a focus on practical communication in medical settings.
Legal Residency and Work Permit:
You need a valid residence permit for the Netherlands or citizenship from an EEA country that does not require a work permit. Efkaria will provide you with a permit and further guidance along the road

Additional Requirements:

- Hold a recognized nursing degree.
Work experience is an advantage but not mandatory.
- Be available for full participation in training and onboarding programs.

Completion of Course

Employment and Conditions
After you complete the required training with Efkaria and obtain your Certificate of Professional Competence, Efkaria assists you in securing employment at a long-term care institution, such as a nursing home or home care provider. Employment contracts typically range from 32 to 40 hours per week, and your working conditions will be in line with Dutch collective labor agreements.

Work in Elderly Care

Efkaria prepares you to work within the Dutch long-term care system, which is governed by the Long-Term Care Act (WLZ). This system provides care for individuals who need constant supervision or intensive support, such as the elderly or those with severe disabilities. Care can be delivered in residential facilities or, when possible, at home. With Efkaria’s guidance, you are equipped to navigate the Dutch care system and deliver high-quality care to those who need it most.
